English teaching
is like the third law of Newton's Law of Motion, which is when "the mutual
forces of action and reaction between two bodies are equal, opposite and
collinear". Traditionally, one may see teaching as the act of
"sculpturing", to sculpture knowledge into the learner; this is a
condition where the force is one-sided and the teaching-learning bodies are
unequal and hierarchical. However, after a few experiences of teaching to
people from varied ages, I realized that teaching is actually a condition that is
done with mutual force, with both bodies though opposite to each other in their
roles, but are seen as equals and are respected as they exchange thoughts and
inspire ideas upon a common ground... which makes the experience collinear.
The
teacher teaches, the students learns, but the student does not just absorb,
they have to participate, and ask questions, and give feed-backs, this in
return innovates the teacher to do better and achieve better teaching
techniques and approaches. So the initial force of the teacher receives an equal force from
the student, and the forces both bodies receive will enable them to enhance and
spark new forces to achieve a higher goal (which is the reason why they are
teaching or learning)--to realize their dream in life. This however does not mean a teacher can teach without any
professional training, the “initial force” must be itself well prepared and has
good principles and approaches in order to hit the right spots for the right
effects. In short, English teaching is like the third law of Newton, it allows mutual
forces to encounter and in turn enable individuals to reach for their dreams.
An English teacher is like a gardener; she plants the right seeds in the different types of soil, and caresses the growing process of the plants so that it will become the best that it can be.
